On Tuesday, as part of our outdoor session, we had the presentation of the funds we raised from the Andi P Tournament that had been set aside for a donation to the Queenstown Cancer Recovery Gym to assist in supporting them in the fantastic work in our community.
A cheque for $1000 was handed over to Andi P and Maria Bradley with apologies from the Trustees who were not able to be present but passed on their heartfelt thanks to the club.
Since our first contact with the Cancer Gym it has become very apparent of the association between our two organisations. We are both linked very closely to the Queenstown Events Centre, we provide an opportunity for people to get back into exercise with our sessions - particularly the novice/social play in our morning sessions, we have active club members who have been, or who have family members who have been part of their program and as a community we never know when any of us will need the services that this organisation provides - building up strength, confidence and providing social connections after cancer. These ladies provide an outstanding service and announced today their program, which has largely been based around breast cancer survivors, is now incorporating a wider range of cancer recovery programs which will enable them to accept men who are recovering as well as women.
Thanks to all those who took part in the inaugural Andi P tournament and in turn contributed to supporting this wonderful cause.
